nice to meet you bud! I've never really spent much time with rpgs (though I wouldn't mind changing that soon), so I look forward to hearing you chat / share your knowledge about them. Welcome to the site!

64bitmatthewNice to meet ya too. There not really a whole lot of RPG for the N64 (then again, I don't have a good memories about N64) I heard about Quest 64 but the leveling system suck. It take too long to level states. But if you interesting starting playing an RPG games. I would say Final Fantasy 1 for either NES, PS1, GBA, or PSP version. Its a simple turn-base RPG that you will get the hang of it. Derp.

As I sit here looking at this ridiculous table full of gaming consoles and games(game room to come later), I think to myself: What did Nate and Lester get me into?
It starts with one. One game. One game and one outing with my friends the Thriftdwellers...
I remember the first time I ever played a video game, all the games I had or played at friends houses as a kid, the blisters from gripping the controller and pushing those two red buttons as fast and as many times as I could, leaving the game on pause while I had to go eat dinner because there was no saving for most games back then and eventually getting the system shut off by my mom because I just would not stop playing!
Like most of my friends growing up, we didn't have a lot of money. We always got the system far later than everyone else and only had a select few games to play on it when we did. Luckily I had a good group of friends who would lend games throughout the group and we all got a chance to play each others games to our hearts content and then return it and pass it on to the next guy. One of theses games that was passed around was Final Fantasy II(SNES). I had the first one for NES(CIB) and as a kid I got into it, but was just getting the concept of the RPG and the many many many hours it took to complete one of these games(I was stuck in FF as a kid and later returned to it and found my way, lol). But, being a little older, once I got my hands on FFII and I knew a little more about this style of game I instantly fell in love. The characters and story were captivating and drew me in instantly. This final fantasy will always be my favourite(I've played almost all versions multiple times), but the point I'm trying to make without rambling too much on how great FFII is is that this copy of FFII(along with many games) was passed around between AT LEAST six different people. So, even back then as kids going over to each others houses and playing, lending/trading each other games, a gaming community is born.
Now, as adults, we seek and share this nostalgic feeling of our youth. Many of us are gaming on current gen systems online, but for those of us who hold strong to the gaming of our past, we still are deeply rooted in this Retro community. Being that these games we seek are as old as 30+ years and a lot are extremely rare, it is important to have this community grow so we can all share in the experience and keep it alive!
There are many things I can say on the subject of gaming and my personal history with it, but this is only meant to be an introduction for me to this forum. I just want to say that I am one of those who will try my best to help this community grow, especially here in Winnipeg. I will do my part to help my good buddy Nate to make this RetroCon a tremendous success so that in the future we grow as a community that can share this feeling we all have together(and hopefully make some good trades along the way ;p)
As I said, I wrote this as a sort of intro for me, but if anyone wants to comment and share their first gaming story or fondest memories or even just say what's up, then do so. It's been a LONG time since I've been involved in any type of forum. Thanks for reading!
Spread the word!!!

It's me Lester, Thriftdweller #2 if you watch our YouTube channel. I finally decided to sign up for Nate's forum and support this as Winnipeg does need an outlet for a retro gaming convention. I see and understand his vision and want this to succeed in any way possible.
A little about myself...
The earliest memories I have with video games was when I was 4 or 5 years old. My cousin came back from the US on a trip, low and behold he comes back with a NES. We got hooked! Playing long hours of Nintendo during sleep overs at my cousins house was the thing back in my childhood.
Beardman (Ian) mentioned in his introduction that we grew up poor. This is true, we really didn't have the newest games or the newest systems right away and had to wait. Basically we shared games back in the 8-Bit and 16-Bit eras of video games. We were lucky enough to have friends that were into many different genres of video games. So you always had the friend with the RPGS, one with the fighting games/sports games and one with the Platformers/Adventure games etc. You had to be there to experience the rotation going around. The crazy thing is, we actually respected the save files on the cartridges and did not delete them if our friend had a perfect save with 100% completion.
Out of all the video games I've grown up playing, and still play religiously to this day it's Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting.
It wasn't until I got a job when the madness began for collecting. Back in 1997 I went nuts buying anything PlayStation, to be honest I actually traded some SNES games to get even more PlayStation games. Anyways, the PS2 finally came out. Oh did I go nuts for that as well as the Dreamcast.
So from 1997-2007 collecting for PlayStation and PlayStation 2 the collection I had was pretty massive. In mid 2007, real life hit me in the face and I had to sell all of it (except for my copy of Gitaroo-Man on PS2) for rent money/bills/debts etc. Do I regret it? No. I'm just glad I experienced the games when they actually came out, most of the collection that I had was all bought brand new first day releases.
While I did grow out of collecting for older systems, I currently am collecting for the PS3 since I've missed out on that generation of gaming. The bug hit me again, but this time I'm going to do it responsibly. lol. I find that my passion is deeply rooted with Music more rather than video games. But I still enjoy gaming from time to time in small doses. If it's one thing I miss, and we talk about it all the time is that we honestly don't have the time like we used to when we were kids.

Or should I spell it Beurdman because of the way Nate and Lester pronounce it in the videos? hahaha
