I am not huge on them either anymore. So I often return to basics for it. Good old Street fighter 2 and Killer Instinct never do me wrong =D

Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting... I will never ever stop playing this game. Too many memories from the arcades back in the 90's. Nate and I still play this game.
Tekken... I love the characters. Tekken Tag 1 and 2 are my faves and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection.
Virtua Fighter (Specifically Virtua Fighter 4 and Virtua Fighter 5)... Probably the most technical fighting game you can get your hands on. Simple to get into, hard to master.
I don't like comparing different fighting games to another series etc. I'm pretty open to what they all offer. These are my fave 3 though. I suck at Marvel VS Capcom 3, but I play it when I'm super bored. I can't get into really combo crazy games sometimes.

I do like Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale but that a 4-players battle. So, my guess would be Ehrgeiz. Ehrgeiz is a 3D Fighting game that was for the arcade platform before they ported it to Playstation and were published by Squaresoft. I find it interesting about the arcade version of Ehrgeiz because it has an installment for couple of Final Fantasy VII characters and one original character release. In 1998, in Japan, Cloud Strife were release and installed after 30 days, Tifa Lockhart after 60 days, and Django after 90 days. In the arcade version, they were more 3D like, it show a map and character who you are fighting next, and at the final battle, the boxes are on the floor and you can kick it. While in the Playstation version, not-so 3D like (except the cutscenes), it has more modes than fighting mode (they have a mini-games and Dungeon Crawler RPG), it has more Final Fantasy VII characters, and at the final battle, the boxes is on a pillar which you have to jump-kick (which it make it harder), the final boss is a lot smaller than the arcade version boss. Good thing you don't have to beat the final boss with all the characters (except one of the character because he has two endings depends if you beat the final boss). Almost forgot, you can also run around the stadium. The original characters always reminded me of the Tekken characters that mainly because Namco is pretty much working this game with Squaresoft which I find this interesting. Overall, it was good, the controls is kinda weird and hard but you can get used to it. Darn I forgot about Ehrgeiz. I played the heck out of that and Tobal #1 back in the day. Great post =D

Great post =D Tobal #1 was freakin' awesome. I loved how smooth the motion was. One of the few games on PS1 that ran at 60 frames a second. lol. Bushido Blade was one game I played alot too. One hit kills plus the open field fighting. On the topic of fighting games and PS1... Remember when it was launched with Battle Arena Toshinden? That game was nuts back then.

Besides super smash bros, the only other fighting games I really got into were Dead or Alive and Smackdown vs Raw series for the ps2! I never had a 64 to play no mercy but I hear its pretty decent!

Hey everybody, As I have been trying to get into the fighting genre, I want to here what's everybody's favourite fighting series and why? What makes it a good fighter? Why is it better than the others? First off... dope avatar! Secondly, re: fighting games. On the surface, there might seem to be only a few "flagship" fighters, but there's TONS, espically when you get into the Persona 4 and other anime fighters no ones ever heard of (generally speaking of course!). IF you look at it, Street Fighter is the first truly fighting game (well, the one that counts anyways) and everything COULD be seen as being based on that, MEANING Street Fighter is where I think you should start. Lester and I grew up playing Street Fighter 2, but being this is in the current gen threads, play street fighter 4. Every other game can be compared to SF so it could give you a good base on what to play next. I always found Mortal Kombat type games very stiff, which Injustice is based off of. To be honest, if you're into comics (which I am) Injustice might be worth a try. Sample it all my friend! The biggest barrier to entry on fighting games is that, unlike single player experiences, fighting games are much like sport. iF you're personality is obessive compulsive type, you don't mind losing a bunch and playing over and over, fighting games are for you. There is the gamer type that just likes single player expirences. There's nothing wrong with that either. It's just when you play someone who's logged (litterally) over 3 years worth fighting in Street Fighter, it'll ruin you fun fast!

I guess my fav. fighting series would be Mortal Kombat. With ya there, dalmantor! MK has always been my favourite. Probably has to do with the fact that my mom never let us play it at home, so it was like this "forbidden fruit" of gaming. Thank God for older cousins, though!
