I need to plan something different from the same old classics. I love asking people to recommend what they believe are under-rated games. When I first started collecting, this was how i discovered some awesome games like Yo'Noid (NES) and Parasite Eve (PS1).
I'll reserve to list my recommended under rated games for a later time, i'm excited to hear everyone else's! Any system, go ahead and list them and why you like them.

LIST YOUR UNDER RATED VIDEO GAME GEMS!For whom that has played it will agree that the MOST underrated video game of all time is Beyond Good and Evil (yes I will be that guy to mention this game). If anybody hasnt played or heard of it please go check it out. Everything about this game is amazing from the characters, to the art style, the use of a camera like pokemon snap, excellent combat, and an amazing story to go with it. A second game that is often over looked is Okami. Using a paintbrush is an amazing mechanic from combat to interacting with the environment to figure out puzzles. Followed by an excellent story and stylish visuals to back it up. For anybody that likes a zelda type of game be sure to check it out. Both games mentioned had HD remakes so be sure to pick them up online if you cant find a physical copy of the games.

KKool - thanks man, I don't have Beyond Good Evil yet, i think i've passed that over a few times, I gotta find it now! Okami is dope! I think i'll put an under-rated selection, incase people haven't tried it yet. I discovered this game a few years ago via emulator, Crystalis for NES. I was very suprised on how great this RPG was, it's an action RPG like zelda style, great story and easy to play. More under-rated reccomendations the more people reply to this thread (i hope!)

A really awesome underrated game IMO is Dragon View for snes. It is the sequel to Drakkhen. The developers decided to go a completely different direction and made it into a action rpg/dungeon crawler. I have yet to beat it but I've wasted many a weekend grinding this one. My second choice would be Azure Dreams for the PS1 just because it was such a refreshing game for the era. Part dungeon crawler part monster tamer part dating sim and all awesome =D

It looks awesome, RPG w/ like a Shining Hold Ark from Sega Saturn feel! Do you own this one? Incase anyone is interested in the video I saw...

Vandal Hearts on the original PlayStation. I put so many hours into that game back in the day. It's a really good game. I no longer own a copy. But everyone should play this game.
B-Boy on the PSP or PS2.. yeah this game got really crappy reviews. If you are a fan of hip-hop culture. This is a great game to just unwind to, even for half an hour.
Firefighter F.D.18 for the PS2... it's a firefighting game. I miss having a copy of this game. So good.
Disaster Report for the PS2... name says it all. Bad things happen. You have to survive. Love this game.
Raw Danger for the PS2... again, the name says it all. Things happen, you have to survive. Freaking awesome game.
Ape Escape: Pumped and Primed for the PS2... it's a great multiplayer party game. Imagine Mario Party, but with Monkeys.
Battle Stadium D.O.N. (Japan Import) for the PS2... Dragon Ball VS One Piece VS Naruto. It's a 4 player fighting game like Smash Bros. I miss having the import copy of this game. I'm not even a huge fan of anime either.
Bomberman Kart (Japan Import) for the PS2.. Yup Bomberman on Wheels. I thought this was a really fun game. lol.
GigaWing Generations (Japan Import) for the PS2.. I absolutely love the Giga Wing series. This is the 3rd game. It was released in the Arcade and only on the PS2.
Gunvari Collection (Japan Import) for the PS2.. It's Gun Balina 1,2, and 3 (Point Blank series here in North America), and Time Crisis all in one package! Compatible with the GunCon 2.
Yup, I played a TON of PS2 back in the day.

You have Raw Danger too? Man, that game was fun but frustrating at the same time (especially the girl with the handcuff). But I always love playing as the Taxi Guy, he's was awesome. I do have Disaster Report but I didn't have time to play it but I know it a prequel to Raw Danger.

There were some great ones mentioned there. I definitely second the recommendations of Vandal Hearts, Crystalis and Azure Dreams. I will say that one game I feel is underrated is Secret of Evermore, or SoE, for the SNES. It is overshadowed by Secret of Mana, or SoM (also SNES), which has a lot of the same mechanics and shares a lot of similarities. I think the main thing that puts SoM above SoE is that it supports 3 player co-op play, which was awesome for an action RPG at the time. But I think the differences still make SoE worth grabbing. The main character is a "present day" kid, which was always interesting to see. It has a nice variety of locations in the game, which keeps things fresh. The alchemy system as a replacement to magic was interesting to change things up. Also interesting to note that this wasn't a game brought over from Japan, it was released only in the US and EU. If you were a fan of Secret of Mana, gives Secret of Evermore a shot. Another game "series" I think gets overlooked a decent bit is the Soul Blazer trilogy, being Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma. Sadly, the last was not released state-side, only Japan and Europe, so I've only played it through emulators (shhh! ). I'm considering getting a Super Famicom copy at some point. Anyway, these games are action RPGs which all have a centralized theme of reincarnation throughout them, which I found very interesting. For Soul Blazer, if anyone has played Dark Cloud, I would consider this to be its 16-bit brother. A lot of the ideas from Soul Blazer also happen in Dark Cloud, where you go to different locations, free people/places/objects from dungeons and rebuilding towns. Illusion of Gaia is a quirky game, with a good bit of light-hearted humor, but can be very serious as well. Terranigma is probably one of my favorite action RPG's. It has a great story, with some good twists in it, and it plays really well which is important in an action style game. I'll mention one more, this time for the PS1, Legend of Legaia. I really enjoyed this game and it has a lot of interesting mechanics to it. I enjoy the battle system a lot. You have to create a combo of attacks, using a High attack, a Low attack, attack with your Right hand and attack with your Left hand. And using different combinations, you can discover special combo attacks which do extra damage. Also, the way you learn magic is interesting too. Instead of learning spells, you are able to absorb different monsters and they become your magic. They have their own element which lets you know what kind of attack they use and some use healing type of magic. And these monsters level up as you use them, making your magic more powerful. I don't know if everyone would consider these to be "hidden gems", but I don't hear them mentioned often. Either way, regardless of whether they are "hidden" or not, I'd recommend any of the above games.
