My current project is to build my own MAME cabinet. For those who don't know what MAME is, it stands for Mulitiple Arcade Machine Emulator. It's basicly a computer inside an arcade. This is going to be multiple post as I go along w/ the progress of my first machine. I haven't done this before, but seems easy enough (or so I think). Anyone have any expirence w/ this? I might ask for input or help along the way. But here's the first cabinet I aquired. it's pretty much stripped already. I'm working more on it next week. PART 1 - Getting the cabinetI found a friend who was an arcade collector, he had a few project cabinets I got for decent price. I could have got these cheaper, but in Winnipeg, there's not as much as in Toronto or B.C (which have cheaper empty cabinets). Tip 1: Make sure you have a friend or two to help you move these big suckers! This is the cabinet. Most of mine was already stripped, but I gotta figure out how to take the lock in the back off. This one was my friend's cabinet, we got a better deal when we bought 2. Get er' done! More pics as the progress continues

There are a couple shortcuts you can take. Like getting a original xbox modded with coinops5 and getting a X-Arcade dual stick with a adapter sold by the same guys. I was going to do this but then I got hooked in collecting for the original xbox and I don't want to close mine up anymore lol. I'm probably going to go with a modular coffee table/arcade sticks =D

yah this was what I was thinking would be the best and easiest, but I think i'ld get the one w/o the trackball... however goldentee would be tempting! lol.. My plan was the build my own play area buying a button/joystick set into a USB harness (I think this exists, i'm sure i've read it before, i gotta go do more research, i was hoping someone did this before) Thanks for the tips

I'm also trying to build a cabinet, but time is always a factor. Does your friend have any other cabinets for sale? I tried contacting Allied Coin, but they never got back to me. I just need an empty cab, I already have everything else.

I thought I should add some progress pictures. I kinda regret not making a in depth how to picture set. Here's some updated pics. I've stripped the inside, prep and painted the outside, added some touches.... all left now is the control which I've already ordered from XArcade.com Here's the pics. I even added a progress pic of my friend's cabinet (if u look at the original pics, there's 2 cabinets!) A joke pic, but it does show the progress. I prepped and painted the sides, added some touches.... Here's a pic of us working on the computer for my cabinet and my friend's J. We're using crusty old computers... lol Us playing some games with USB PS2 controllers. Coming Next - The Arcade Controls and The Final Product!

Here's the buttons when they came in, I ordered from XArcade.comI'll be making more up to date pics soon, but here's the latest picture with the playfield mounted! There's still some programing stuff to clean up, but as soon as it's done i'll make a quick demo vid on this mame cab!

You should try to find a ROM for TMNT, The Simpsons, X-men and there was a arcade hockey game that was really good but I cant remember what it was called. I know Kyle (from the meet n greet) mentioned it!

I think we were talking about hit the ice, i remember the octopus talk Lester is actually helping me get a complete MAME rom set... hope to see him this week. =D
