Hey everyone! I just discovered this community via facebook today and figured I should get involved! My buddy Tommy and I have been collecting games for years and have been making the rounds to the second hand stores for all sorts of different things since around 1998. In the last 5-7 years or so, we got more serious about fine tuning our retro game collecting. I have around 1350 games in my collection and Tommy has got to be pushing 2000 by now. He has over 500 NES games and has really been focusing on a close to full NES set as a goal. In December 2012 we started a blog called "River City Retro" where we show off our recent pickups and take jabs at each other for fun. We get a modest amount of views on the blog, but we've mostly kept it more anonymous as we've never really participated in a Winnipeg collecting community as sadly a lot of folks we had talked to over the years turned out to be really big scalpers and re-sellers. We were aware of The Thriftdwellers, but stayed away so we could protect some of our best kept Winnipeg game collecting secrets lol. Maybe now we can come out of the dark and join the community a little more. Here's the blog: River City Retro The blog does not have a lot of posts, so even going back to the original posts in Dec 2012 and moving forward will give you a picture of what we collect. We also do a video game collecting podcast! We have a fair bit of experience podcasting, and decided the time was right to launch a game collecting one this year. The show is called "Two Crude Dudes" and can be found here: Two Crude DudesWe have pretty busy lives so we only get to do the podcast once a month or so, but each episode is usually in the 2 hour range. Please subscribe on iTunes and give us a rating if you can! WARNING: The podcast has pretty explicit language and lots of really immature humor. It's called "Two Crude Dudes" for a reason, as a good amount of the show is filled with us drinking beer and making dick jokes lol. We do not take ourselves seriously and we do some really dumb stuff on the show. Follow me on Twitter @ superrobottyson and Tommy is @rcrhitmantommy or you can follow him on Instagram too at Hitmantommy. We'd be very interested in supporting a Winnipeg Retro Gamers meetup and convention. If the really passionate collectors get together and support the hobby, we can keep it fun and maybe take back some excellent games that are falling into the hands of scalpers and resellers. We would be happy to talk about this on the next podcast and since we don't utilize our little blog much, maybe we can meet people through here! Thanks! Tyson

SirMichi - Yah, i have no experience on podcasts or what makes a good one. i'm not against them however. TwoCrudeDudes - haha, protect yoruself from me!!! I am evil! I am interested in meeting up and getting in on someone's pod cast. I don't mind being crude from time to time, just not on youtube! lol It's for my job, i need to maintain a positive public image. I'll also check out the blog! Excited! =D i got to read your post again however, i'm watching walking dead at the moment and there's lots of details. I'm happy to have people's support. i'm excited to meet w/ another group of gamers, it's like two nations meeting for the first time. We're all retro fans to begin w/ so that's all that matters to me. I know there's a lot of beef against re-sellers and scalpers, but to me it's an inevitability IMO. It's the culture we've made. Sometimes they're the ones who find those HARD to get titles, which may never come up anyways. I'm slowing down however on buying games at the moment, so you're safe. haha. thanks for sharing

BTW - Two Curde Dudes, either of you are or do you know "NESTheChamp" ? I met a guy attempting to complete an NES set in the city, sounds very familiar to your post... Just wanted to find the guy, but seems he disappeared...

Sorry Nate can't say that I'm familiar with anyone going by the name "NESTheChamp" and it's definitely not Tyson or I.
Anyways thanks for getting this all started and I really look forward to being part of what will be a great community.

Thanks for the support guys! Glad to see Tommy has arrived too! This is a perfect community for us to come out of the shadows a little as since we have refined our collections a bit, we might need help trading with folks to get the really unique things we need.
The podcast is kind of a silly way for us to act like idiots and also talk about games. You can sense that we have a big passion for collecting, but most of the time we are making such dumb jokes. I think we plan to make another episode next week and we'll be sure to mention this site and the future plans. I'd really like to see a small swap meet for collectors start up. It would be cool to put aside some games and cash and bring it to a gathering. We can get to know a few other gamers and maybe share each other's wantlists and make some trades or sales.

This is what we want to plan at a future dinner with some forum folks, to talk about a small "retro gamers swap" or "meet", still deciding on the name. We'ld love to have your support!!

Thanks!
I ended up getting some last minute Jets tix, so we had to postpone recording the new podcast, but we should have time next week!

Hey dudes! I finally put up another blog post today and Tommy and I will finally get around to recording a new podcast soon. I think it's realistic for us to record at least 6-10 episodes this year. Can't wait for the get together in April! River City RetroCheers, Tyson

It's almost embarrassing how offensive and stupid we get on the show, but we wanted it to be true to how we talk when we are driving around chasing games. Our previous podcast was slightly more professional, so this one is really off the rails, especially if we get a few beers into us lol.
We are recording another episode finally on Friday Jan 24!
Also:Anyone in Winnipeg have any tips on getting some Universal Game Cases? The shipping is pretty horrible trying to get them from the USA. Maybe we could all go in on a big lot?

The Thrift Dwellers vs The Two Crude Dudes. Just a thought, either way it would be nice to connect prior to the convention

The new episode of Two Crude Dudes is finally up! Check it out on the blog or on Podbean. Please subscribe through iTunes and throw us a rating on iTunes if you can. Thanks!! Two Crude Dudes Episode #6"Finally! It's a new year and a new episode of gaming's crudest commentary! Two Crude Dudes are back from the cryogenic sleep of the Canadian winter to assault your ears with video game chatter that is stupider than a Torontonian mayor on a crack bender! Tommy spent Christmas with Bruce Willis and they shared a succulent Rickman Chicken Sandwich for their holiday meal. Tyson found out that crappy games mostly come at night and can turn your blood into acid with the power of hate! You'll stop your grinnin' and drop your linen with our movie licensed game reviews! We found out how Microsoft's support line requires a scan of your genitals to power up the 360, but if you want to play games in true 1080p HD, it helps if you're not a colossal idiot. Tyson got served by Lando in the Galactic Dance-Off while Tommy kept his NES collection warm in his new Turbo Chef. Don't miss this gas powered return to form! Even the dude-bros will lay down their weapons and answer the Call of Doody from the Two Crude Dudes!!" Tyson
